The news sometimes report that a dictator have hidden enormous amounts of money on offshore bank accounts.

The privacy offered by offshore banking is one of the reasons dictators are able to steal huge amounts of money from their countries. Until recently, no offshore bank would leak any information to authorities and the dictator could therefore transfer money to his account without any worries.

Lately, the offshore banks have started checking their accounts for accounts owned by dictators, etc. Due to the offshore banks introducing such checks, the amount of accounts owned by dictators and other despicable people is falling.
